10 Gift Ideas for Ten Unique Family Members

giftsThe holidays are coming and that means it’s time to shop for the relatives… the crazy, difficult and sometimes picky relatives.  Of course you love them, and want to get a gift that is both useful and/or enjoyable, but sometimes it can be hard.  We’ve all been there and it transforms what should be a fun time, into an extremely stressful one.  Well since Serenity Health & Home Decor is all about stress relief, we’ve compiled a list of gift ideas for those “special” relatives that are particularly hard to shop for.

1. Crazy Aunt Ruth

Every family has an ‘eccentric’ aunt who has the strangest tastes in EVERYthing.  This family member always makes family get-togethers interesting with her crazy but lovable antics, but how do you shop for someone who loves the strangest of things?  First, try to put yourself in her mindset.  The level of crazy will determine how UNIQUE the gift should be.  Try to find gifts that may not be common or are even one of a kind!  Handmade items are often a great choice since no one item is exactly the same.  Visually appealing decor that emits vast amounts of color should also work to make your special aunt happy.original

2. Lazy Cousin Vinnie

The next difficult relative on our list is the cousin who just can’t seem to get it together.  Sometimes considered the black sheep, the bum of the family, or the outcast, this is the guy (or girl) who doesn’t like to work, or pay bills, or really handle responsibility in any way.  Although, you’d probably like to pretend this relative doesn’t exist, he or she is still family and the holidays are a time for giving.  That’s not to say that you can’t give something extremely useful to a lazy person, like a special alarm clock that actually imitates the sun rise for a naturally refreshing wake.Soleil Sun Alarm SA3

3. The Princess

Little girls are made with sugar, spice and everything nice, at least that’s how the saying goes.  I’m sure the little girls in your family are no different.  They love anything pink, fluffy and cute.  In fact, little girls are probably one of the easiest family members to please.  Nonetheless, sometimes finding the ‘perfect’ gift for the precious niece, daughter or granddaughter can be taxing.  Try finding something that is cute, fluffy AND useful, like the item below.precious_pig_neck_wrap

4. Mom

Your mom could be the single most difficult person to shop for this season.  You’d love to give her everything she wants/needs but sometimes that just isn’t possible.  New cars and houses are somewhat out of the budget for most of us.  So what’s the next best thing?  Get something sentimental that shows you cared enough to think about it.  Mom deserves the best and a personalized gift with a meaningful quote could be just the thing. grandma

5. Grandma

Grandma is the center of the whole family.  After all, without her, none of you would be there.  Grandmas typically live relaxed lives and love enjoying the simple things in life.  We must remember this when choosing a gift.  For instance, buying the latest and greatest gadget for her may seem like a way to make her life easier, but the older generation (70+) has some trouble learning new technology, therefore creating unneeded stress and anxiety for her.  Instead, choose something for her that alleviates the stress.  Perhaps the classic sounds of church bells make her relaxed.  If that’s the case, you can purchase her own personal chimes that mimic the sounds of the church she loves so dearly.wind_chimes

outdoorsman

6. The Outdoorsman

The next unique relative you might be shopping for is the outdoorsman of the family.  Perhaps this is an uncle, brother or even dad, but nonetheless, they probably already have enough outdoor gear to outfit an entire guerrilla army.  So how do you get something that they don’t already have?  Well first, think about convenience.  The outdoors are rugged, and even Davy Crockett would appreciate anything that can make a week in a tent more manageable.  Something portable might suffice, such as a portable fire pit that packs up into a tidy carrying bag for easy transport.IMG_1431

7. Environmentalist

Some people may call this next relative a tree hugger or hippie, but you know her as your sister.  Even though her overly sensitive nature on environmental topics sometimes cause some bitter disputes, you still have to love her enthusiasm and passion.  This year look for something that sustains itself and doesn’t use precious resources.  For example, solar powered items are a craze right now, and they don’t use up any oil, natural gas, or coal.  Even she can enjoy some solar lighting or a solar fountain.richfield_sod_fountain

8. The Decorator

The decorator of the family is usually the most envied because they have a spectacular home inside and out.  Everyone who enters is in instant awe of the beauty.  That being said, if you drew his/her name at the family’s secret Santa selections this year, you might not have a clue what to get!  What you must remember, is that their house is the pride and joy of their lives and anything you can do to improve it further will be appreciated.  But if you’re like me, you are NOT an interior decorator and choosing decor for someone’s home can be tough.  Well, that’s why I’m here to help.  With the help of my interior designer friend, Amber Liddell, I have found the perfect gift that fits into ANY decor!  The tabletop water fountain serves multiple functions in a designer’s mind (or so I’m told).  First, it satisfies the water element needed in Feng Shui (which is a huge thing in interior decorating).  More importantly, the subtle sounds of water are extremely relaxing and you don’ t have to be a designer to BuddhaTabletopFountainwLEDLightsknow that!  There are plenty of styles with many of them having product videos to help with the selection process.

9. Busy Boy

There is no doubt the boy in your family who runs around and does 100 different activities in 5 minutes flat.  He gets bored… fast!  How do you help the little guy out?  The very first thing I would do is take away the caffeine.  Caffeine is known for turning sweet little boys into crazy little monsters that feed on everyone’s energy and patience.  Second, find something that will keep them busy.  For instance, a toy that changes into new toys.  Maybe even a game table that can change into 20 different games.   Combination Game Table

10. Family Member Who Has Everything

Finally, the last person on your list.  The person who has EVERYTHING!  The one family member you dread buying a present for every year.  You know what I’m going to say is best for them, even if it is impersonal and seemingly lazy… a gift certificate.  Why not make the gift certificate for your favorite home decor specialists, Serenity Health & Home Decor.  At least this would show you thought about where to buy from and showed interest in their hobbies.  Just make sure you don’t buy this for a truck driver, or a traveling salesman… they don’t really have any use for home decor items :)
